HYPNOTIC PLOTS
In über 20 neuen Werken erzeugt Haid-Schmallenberg einen Kosmos an Figuren und Szenen, die zwischen Weltbezug und Entfremdung changieren: streunende Katzen, fliegende Gliedmaßen, verirrte Vögeln, wegweisende Deppen und handlungsunfähige Chaoten. Hier dreht sich die Welt um sich selbst und alle ihre Akteure stolpern auf dem Weg zum Glück über die Fäden, die sie zueinander spinnen. Sie sind zärtlich und voreilig, erwartungsvoll, wirken dabei oft harmlos, was sie jedoch nicht kümmert. Sie haben keinen Zweifel an der eigenen Sache und brauchen keine Hoffnung. Nur Lust und Neugier, die sie antreibt und überwältigt.
Die großformatigen Arbeiten, die alle in diesem Jahr entstanden sind, setzen unterschiedliche malerische Strategien ein. Dabei geht es, wie Sophia Süßmilch in ihrem Text zur Ausstellung schreibt, bei solchen "neuen Malprozessen ums Aushalten und Abwarten und Ruhe bewahren um dann im richtigen Moment doch zuzuschlagen mit einer neuen Form, Farbe, Linie. Vielleicht rechts unten noch ein Kreis? Vielleicht in der Mitte alles nochmal mit einem transparenten Weiß übermalen?”
In over 20 new works, Haid-Schmallenberg creates a cosmos of figures and scenes that oscillate between world reference and alienation: stray cats, flying limbs, lost birds, wayward dorks, and chaotic people incapable of action. Here the world revolves around itself, and all its actors stumble over the threads they spin to each other on the way to happiness. They are tender and hasty, expectant, often appearing harmless, but they do not care. They have no doubt about their own cause and do not need hope. Only desire and curiosity that drives them and overwhelms them.
The large-format works, all of which were created this year, employ different painterly strategies. In the process, as Sophia Süßmilch writes in her text on the exhibition, such "new painting processes are about enduring and waiting and keeping calm in order to then strike at the right moment with a new form, color, line. Maybe another circle at the bottom right? Maybe paint over everything in the middle again with a transparent white?"
